2026 Endorsement Process Clarification

• The Street Trust Action Fund has issued a public clarification regarding our 2026 candidate endorsement process. While some races included outreach to all candidates, other candidates independently requested consideration without their opponents receiving the same invitation. We acknowledge this inconsistency, have maintained our endorsements, and are committed to a more equitable outreach process in future elections.

• We use candidate endorsements to identify and support transformational leaders from the local to the state level. 
• We believe that Oregon needs a Future Transportation Caucus if we’re serious about tackling the intertwined challenges of climate crisis, housing affordability, and inequality in our transportation system.
• Our endorsements are valuable and earned, reserved for champions of our mission who are committed to achieving transportation safety, accessibility, racial equity, and climate justice in the Portland Metro region and beyond. 

• The Street Trust Action Fund identifies races and candidates for consideration based on our electoral priorities, the offices being contested, and our capacity to conduct the endorsement process.
• Our endorsement process may include recognizing elected officials with established records of advancing our mission, proactively inviting candidates in priority races, or considering candidates who independently request an endorsement.
• Candidates participating in our formal evaluation process are asked to attend The Street Trust’s Candidate Transportation School and complete our Candidate Questionnaire. General election questionnaires are evaluated by a five-person committee according to an established rubric.
• Endorsements are ultimately made by The Street Trust Action Fund based on a candidate’s alignment with our mission and transportation priorities, their demonstrated record, and, where applicable, the results of our candidate evaluation process.
• An endorsement list is not intended to be a comprehensive list of every candidate who may share our values. We encourage voters to learn more about all candidates and make their own informed decisions.
• Looking ahead: In future elections, when candidates are considered through our formal evaluation process, we are committed to providing all candidates in those races an equal opportunity to participate.
