Bird partnership supports safe and fun e-scooting

The Street Trust and Bird are teaming up to offer Portland e-scooter clinics that will provide safety instruction and skills practice.

Bird is supporting the cost of developing the e-scooter course and delivering 20 clinics in 2020. Bird is also a sponsor of the Active Transportation Summit on March 18 at the Oregon Convention Center. Attendees will have an opportunity to ride a Bird e-scooter at the Summit.

"Bird admires the work of The Street Trust to expand alternatives to driving and we recognize their education expertise. This partnership is a great expression of shared values of transportation choices and safety as well as Bird’s commitment to supporting community-based organizations,” said a spokesperson for Bird.

The Street Trust was an early supporter of allowing e-scooters in Portland. The City’s 2019 e-scooter trial demonstrated that e-scooter trips replaced trips that otherwise would have been taken by Uber or Lyft. The partnership with Bird allows The Street Trust to create opportunities for e-scooter riders to be better informed about the rules of the road, knowledgeable about mapping safe routes, and more confident in e-scooter riding skills.

"We want these clinics to welcome people who are new to alternatives to driving or hesitant to ride on public streets without some practice. It’s important to Bird and The Street Trust to provide an experience that makes transportation choices more viable, ” said Jillian Detweiler

Clinics will be offered at locations throughout Bird’s Portland service area. To schedule a clinic for your workplace, group or organization, please contact jordan@thestreettrust.org
