Our 2017 Member Meeting & Volunteer Awards

On Tuesday, The Street Trust held its annual member meeting in North Portland, and we had a blast! It was great to see so many community members and supporters come together to celebrate the work of advocates in making our region safe and accessible for all. We’re so grateful for the dozens of members who showed up and made this event happen!

This was our first member meeting since the Bicycle Transportation Alliance became The Street Trust in January, and members got to hear from our new executive director Jillian Detweiler, many of them for the first time. “It’s truly an honor to be a part of this movement and to serve our communities by making it easier and safer to get around in the region,” she said, “Your contributions to The Street Trust go a long way, and with responsible stewardship over the organization’s finances, we can reinvigorate our movement and deliver results for decades to come.”

We also got to hear from policy director Gerik Kransky, who gave members a recap of our victories in the Oregon legislature. The Street Trust and our partner organizations played a critical role in helping pass a statewide transportation package which provides a historic $1.3 billion investment in biking, walking, and transit. Thanks to the tireless efforts of advocates, we helped secure a record $125 million investment in Safe Routes to School and put our state on the map as a leader in road safety and accessibility. We also helped pass three Vision Zero laws which put us one step closer to eliminating all deaths and serious injuries on our roads and streets.

These victories couldn’t have happened without the incredible support of our members, and we wanted to celebrate the monumental work of volunteers who make up our movement. Let’s give a hand to the laureates of this year’s Volunteer Awards – they earned it!
