Introducing Lise Ferguson, our New Women Bike Intern

Meet our new Women Bike Intern Lise Ferguson!

Lise grew up on a hilly, rainy island where only very experienced cyclists dared to ride. Other than driving, the only way to really get around was to wait for the one unpredictable bus, or convince your mom to give you a ride (good luck with that!). Lise graduated from the University of Washington in 2014 with a degree in environmental studies and a passion for improving the way people get around in safe, fun, and responsible ways. When she came to Portland, she was excited to see not only bike lanes and trails everywhere, but that the hills were friendly and small enough to tackle on her junky but well-loved old cruiser!

Now, with thicker calves and a better bike, Lise wants to make Portland even more accessible for people who walk, roll, and take public transportation. She believes having the ability to travel by bike is one of the most liberating and joyful ways you can live in the city. Her new goal is to get more women-identified people out on bikes. As a pretty experienced cyclist, she wants to help other women feel confident getting behind the handlebars and taking on rides both in the city and beyond. She wants to push her own boundaries as well and get better at riding on unfamiliar roads. Her ultimate goal for herself is to go bike camping – maybe you want to come with?
When she is not working, Lise can be found reading in a cozy dive bar, experimenting with permaculture, running around in a forest somewhere, or riding her bike to her favorite swimming holes. Come along on a ride and say hi!
We’re really excited to have Lise on the team. You can contact Lise at [email protected].
