The BTA’s annual Walk + Bike Challenge is a friendly, month-long competition aimed at encouraging more kids and families to walk and bike to and from school and throughout their neighborhoods. Hosted by the BTA, the Challenge wouldn’t be possible without the on-going support of many partners (including ODOT, the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, and Fire Up Your Feet) and sponsors (i.e. Grouptrail, Chipotle, and Wells Fargo).
And, to help encourage increased walking and biking this May, one of those sponsors, Grouptrail, is initiating a challenge of their own! For every child that participates in the May 2015 Walk+Bike Challenge, Grouptrail is donating 10 cents to BTA’s Walk+Bike program. By simply walking or biking to school and tracking the trips, kids raise funds to support the program! Pretty neat, right? So is Grouptrail! Grouptrail is a free group messaging site with tools to get things done for your workplace, boards, committees, PTAs, and more powered by Portland-based FMYI, a certified B Corporation that supports the bicycling community. Check them out!
And, log your kids trips! Luckily, tracking trips is easy. You can track on a regular, weekly basis or once, for the whole month. However, if you track your trips regularly, you increase the possibility of winning prizes for your school. How? The BTA is holding weekly prize drawings for schools that log trips each week to win extra incentives, gift certificates, and other great prizes.
It’s easy. Walk and bike to school this May and track the trips. Then win prizes while raising funds to support the program!
