Building Capacity for Safe Routes to School

Thanks to everyone who came to the Walk+Bike Networking Night in January at the Community Cycling Center!  Your ideas and enthusiasm helped make the whole evening inspiring and engaging.
In a nutshell, we believe every student deserves to walk and bike to school safely and we are ready to do something about it!

The Walk+Bike Network and Safe Routes to School are working to promote walking and biking to schools and other places though education, encouragement activities, engineering improvements, enforcement, and evaluation. Thanks to this group for being a part of the movement!

Biggest takeaways from the event:

  • We are all working on projects that we are passionate about!
  • Partnerships are key to making thin resources go further.
  • Lack of local funding for youth bike/ped programs is a big barrier.
  • Several new partnerships were formed because of the networking!

Thanks again to Portland Bureau of Transportation and the Community Cycling Center for co-hosting!
