Bike Commute Challenge Photo of the Day: REALMS in Bend

Today’s Bike Commute Challenge Photo of the Day comes to us from Rimrock Expeditionary Alternative Learning Middle School (REALMS) just north of Bend, Oregon. Their website notes that REALMS “is a public charter school for 6th through 8th grade students  who are seeking a small, active, and challenging educational environment.” As a school that works to “foster scholarship, strengthen community, and inspire stewardship through active learning,” it’s no surprise that they’ve built riding bicycles for commutes to work and school into the daily curriculum of the school.

REALMS posted this photo on the school’s facebook page this evening, writing that “REALMS students braved the cold on our first bike to school day of the year! That’s just how Bend kids roll.”

Would you like to see your children walk or ride a bike to school this fall? Be sure to check out the Bicycle Transportation Alliance’s Oregon Walk + Bike Challenge, coming up on International Walk and Bike to School Day on October 9th. It’s a great way to build community, get your children some exercise, and ultimately prime them for future victorious campaigns on future Bike Commute Challenge teams. All the information for registration is available on our website; let us know if you have any questions!

Thanks for the photo, REALMS! Teaching the next generations of Oregonians how to #bikemore is certainly a laudable goal, and we at the BTA love seeing photos of the whole family suited up for their trips to work and school. The Challenge is winding down, but don’t let that be any excuse to not send in your adorable photos and to make sure you’ve logged your trips. The trip logger on the Bike Commute Challenge will freeze on October 2nd; make sure you’ve completed your calendar by then! Happy Riding.
