Bike Commute Challenge Photo of the Day: City of Tigard

Bike Commute Challenge Team 2013

Happy Monday, Bike Commute Challengers! Today’s Bike Commute Challenge Photo of the Day was sent in by Carol Krager, the Deputy City Recorder (and Bike Commute Challenge Team Captain!) for the City of Tigard.  Carol writes in that “Tigard City Hall is located right on the Fanno Creek Trail which is a convenient and pleasant route that many of us take.  We had three new bike commuters join our team this year.”

If you’ve never visited the Fanno Creek Trail, you’re missing out on a gorgeous, bucolic, winding trail that follows the Fanno Creek through Tigard, Beaverton and Southwest Portland’s neighborhoods and connects to numerous Tigard and THPRD parks. The trail is so nice that the Bicycle Transportation Alliance has stated that creating a network of Washington County Neighborhood Greenways to connect the Fanno Creek Trail to surrounding neighborhoods as one of the top sixteen priorities for the region in our “Blueprint for World-Class Bicycling” report.

There’s no better time to check out the Fanno Creek Trail than a week from Saturday, when the Bicycle Transportation Alliance is co-hosting Washington County’s first Bicycle Town Hall event with Oregon State Senator Mark Hass and Representative Tobias Read. The ride (which is cohosted by THPRD, the City of Beaverton, the Westside Transportation Alliance, Bike Gallery and Washington County’s Citizen Participation Organizations) starts at 9:30 at Garden Home Recreation Center at 78475 SW Oleson Rd.

Thanks to Carol Krager for sending in this photo, and for using the Bike Commute Challenge as an opportunity to encouraging three folks to try biking to work for the first time! Your work has helped the City of Tigard’s team log over 230 miles. That’s a great way to get folks to #bikemore.

Happy riding!
