Bike Commute Challenge Photo of the Day: City of Medford

Bike Commute Sept 2013 017

Good morning, Bike Commute Challengers! Are you looking for some inspiration to keep riding throughout the rest of the month? Every trip that you log with the Bike Commute Challenge website is a trip you are logging with over 9500 riders across the state of Oregon! From Astoria to Pendleton, Portland to Ashland, people are riding their bicycles to work, competing with their coworkers and winning prizes through September 30. Today’s photo comes from southern Oregon, where the City of Medford has been posting some great numbers this September. This photo was sent in by Larry Wise and  Medford Team Captain Chris Oliver,  who both have used a bicycle for over 80% of their trips to work this month. Medford has been holding a steady second place in the “Municipalities” league, holding off their government brethren upstate in Albany by about a hundred miles. Oregonians are biking to work across deserts, mountains, beaches, and valleys.

As we enter the home stretch of the month, we currently have 9500+ active riders who have already logged 723,033 miles, or about three trips to the moon. It’s not too late to join the Bike Commute Challenge! The month is halfway over, but if you haven’t registered yet, you are heartily welcome to join us (and yes, you can backlog trips to work by bicycle that you’ve made over the past month!)  We’re actively hoping to top our Bike Commute Challenge records from last year, in which 11,700 riders logged over 1.25 million miles. Now’s a great time to send those friendly reminders to friends, coworkers and colleagues to log their trips and help us meet our goal. The City of Medford is doing their part, with 12 of their 19 riders having logged two trips. Will you #bikemore for the rest of the month and help us meet our goal?

Thanks for the photo, Chris and Larry! Make sure that you direct your team members to the Bike Commute Challenge discounts page; there are 89 bike shops across the state that are participating (including two in Medford!), so wherever you are bike commuting across the state, there’s a nearby shop that will be happy to give you 10% off of parts accessories through the end of October.

Happy riding!

Yes, I’m in the City of Medford pic. I had a total knee replacement surgery on June 13th, 2013 and am doing fine on my bike. I get to ride the majority of my commute, on our Greenway bike path, so have the added bonus of no traffic and lots of nature.
