Portland Bicycle Plan for 2030: BTA’s Year One Review

When the Portland Bicycle Plan was adopted just over a year ago, the city promised a new vision for bicycling, for a thriving city with more jobs, a robust local economy, more efficient movement, and healthy, happy people. With City Council’s stamp of approval, the Bike Plan would empower leaders and community members to guide Portland toward a world-class future.

So how did we do in the first year?

In 2010 the city made progress where it came naturally, strengthening its programs and doing its best with limited financial resources. However, we lost ground to our peers. We fell short in key areas that indicate progress toward the 2030 benchmarks.

In Year Two, we need to stand out in front of the vision in the Bike Plan and call for more.

Portland City Council will hear a discussion of the first year of the Bike Plan on April 13.
